Led by the unique vocals of band founder Hamish Cowan, Cordrazine's one and only album, From Here to Wherever, debuted in the Top 10 of the ARIA chart in 1997. This was on the back of the breakthrough success of lead single Crazy, which hit the top 10 in that year's JJJ Hottest 100 chart, and featured prominently in the hit television series Heartbreak High.
The band were hotly tipped, winning over both fans and critics with their lush, orchestral rock arrangements and Cowan's Jeff Buckley-esque vocal acrobatics.
But Cowan broke up the band in 1998, with stories suggesting that he simply refused the spotlight, taking up a job at a muffin outlet in central Melbourne and denying the nation his mellifluous tones.
Now, with a new album set to be recorded over the winter and Cowan's muffin dreams fulfilled, Cordrazine play their comeback show on Saturday, 26 May at Melbourne's Northcote Social Club. Tickets are on sale now from the Northcote Social Club Box Office.
